Man Before the Storm Novella is Out Now and It's FREE

Over the past few years, I’ve been working with a new author at Emergent Realms. E.R. Ellis III has a fantastic imagination and has started so many writing projects over the years. In 2020, he participated in NaNoWriMo and chronicled his experience on the Emergent Realms Blog. After he finished, I asked to see the story out of curiosity, and I was pleasantly surprised to read a story with a lot of heart and wonder.

I wanted to see how far he could take it. So we got together and worked on the story to turn it into something he loved and wanted to release into the world.

But before we released it, we decided that it would be fun to make something that would allow people to get a brief introduction to his universe—a story that was short but emotionally resonant.

I’m so happy to let you know that this story is now ready for you to read. And it’s free!

Cornelius, an outsider in his wife’s desert tribe, has spent a lifetime yearning for acceptance among the Vañara. When a cataclysmic event threatens to destroy their community, he must find a way to protect them while respecting their traditions.

Man Before the Storm is a triumphant fantasy tale of sacrifice, the complexity of cultural integration, and the extraordinary courage it takes to be a hero in the face of overwhelming adversity.

You can read an excerpt of the story here.

But the novella is free, so you may as well go ahead and read the whole thing here because you’ve got nothing to lose.

Man Before the Storm was an interesting story to Dev edit. It was a challenge to create a story that fit the backstory of the book he’d written for NaNoWriMo while also making the story fulfilling all on its own. But it was worth the effort, and I believe Ellis has crafted a story you’ll love.
