I Thought I'd Never Write Again… But Here's What Changed

In my latest YouTube vlog, I opened up about the creative chaos that defined my 2024—a year of unexpected challenges, personal growth, and rediscovering the joy of storytelling. Here’s what the video covered:

When Stories Fail

I shared the gut-punch reality of writing a novel I hated. Despite pouring my energy into it, the story didn’t resonate with me, leaving me questioning whether my previous successes—like The Seventh Cadence—were flukes. The burnout hit hard, and for months, I didn’t write at all.

The Power of Taking a Step Back

But taking a step back gave me something I didn’t know I needed: a chance to truly disconnect. I went on my first real vacation, weathered Hurricane Helen with my incredible community, and worked on a film project, all of which helped me see that I’m not just a writer—I’m a creator who finds joy in bringing ideas to life across multiple mediums.

Creative Revival

By late 2024, I started writing with renewed energy, discovering that fumbling through drafts is part of the process. I’ve had a productive month, hit some major drafting milestones, and even faced unexpected challenges like creating an unplanned magical device mid-scene without derailing the plot. It felt good.

Looking Ahead

2025 is about keeping that momentum. There will be setbacks, but that’s okay. I’m embracing the journey, one draft at a time. Plus, I’m committed to reading more this year (just opened a gorgeous Umbra: Sentient Stars Kickstarter edition!).

This vlog isn’t just about writing—it’s about resilience, community, and rediscovering your passion.
