A Review: A Prelude to Ashes by Thiago Abdalla

Finding a new voice in epic fantasy is a thrill when the author turns out to be talented in his execution. This is exactly the case with Thiago Abdalla’s A Prelude to Ashes.

Set 100 years before book one of The Ashes of the Avarin series, A Touch of Light, this prequel novella sets up many of the conflicts and elements of this new world. Adrian and Myrra are forbidden lovers and the children of their respective leaders. The stakes are high as they try to navigate a way to bring their two houses together as war threatens to tear both of their homes apart.

I would recommend this novella to anyone looking for a new epic to follow. It’s short but is also filled with action, characters you can get behind, and enough worldbulding that you’ll be compelled to give the first book a try.

What’s better? It’s free from the author’s website. You basically have no excuse not to give it a shot!

And while you’re on a roll of snapping up free entries into a new world, you should also jump into The Continua Chronicles.

Your first adventure is also free!
